There are so many benefits of the bamboo fiber, especially over cotton which is a rather polluting crop. Below we present some of them and tell you WHY you should opt for bamboo next time you need to restock your home.
The bamboo fiber is soft as silk, but strong as cotton. Comparatively cheaper than silk and better-feeling than cotton; once you have tried bamboo bedsheets you will never want to sleep anything else! What's even better is that no fabric softener is needed!
Bamboo only needs 1/3 of the water that cotton needs to grow. Unlike cotton, it does not need any pesticides, insecticides or fertilisers to grow, and it needs less space too! Actually the cotton plant has absolutely NO resistance to its "predators" without a little help from us, which is why it uses so much pesticides and insecticides. Bamboo doesn't need any. At all. Also, bamboo is a totally renewable grass, with a growth cycle of only 60 days (!!). Pretty impressive.
Bamboo produces more than 35% more oxygen than trees.
Growing bamboo can also be a better choice than other types of wood. Research in Japan and elsewhere has demonstrated that bamboo actually can absorb as much as 12 tonnes of carbon dioxide per hectare per year, giving the plant a potentially crucial role in stabilising our planet's atmosphere. It can also be used to "repair" soil damaged by overgrazing and poor agricultural techniques, and its complex network of roots are ideal for preventing soil erosion and flooding. Unlike most tree species, harvesting does not kill the bamboo, so topsoil erosion and other adverse effects of tree-felling are kept to a minimum.
Perhaps even more important, given the carbon dioxide emissions thought to be responsible for global warming and the threat to biodiversity, bamboo produces more than 35% more oxygen than trees.
You're winning even before the raw material has been harvested!
Wash your bamboo in 40 degrees, and use no fabric softener. Now you're winning at laundry too.
Bamboo is actually up to 40% more absorbent than cotton, working to keep you dry and comfortable, whether it is made into a towel or bedsheets. What's more, bamboo is faster-drying than cotton, which means that even in humid climates around Asia, your towels will feel fresher for longer!
No more stinky towels or damp-feeling bedsheets!
Bamboo naturally contains a bio-agent which gives it a natural ability to resist bacteria. This is also why bamboo is able to grow without pesticides or insecticides. In fabric form, these anti-microbial properties mean that it can repel germs and mould, keeping towels and sheets (and socks) fresh for longer!
If the above was not enough, bamboo also has the ability, like silk, to regulate temperature. It will keep you warm in winter and cool in summer. Finally couples with different body temperatures can sleep comfortably together!
Bamboo is heat regulating - cooling in the summer and warming in the winter
