After the Prince William of Wales was diagnosed with cancer, the Prince of Wales became more forthcoming in Cape Town than ever before.
When questioned about his year, the Prince of Wales acknowledged that it has been “the hardest year of his life” due to the cancer diagnoses of his father and wife.
As he wrapped up his four-day tour to Cape Town in support of the Earthshot Prize Awards, Prince William spoke candidly in an interview with UK print media in South Africa.
The health issues of the King and the Prince William of Wales were confirmed in February and March of this year.
Kate, 42, finished a course of preventative chemotherapy in September, and Charles, 75, has resumed his treatment after returning to the UK after his tour of Australia and Samoa with his wife Camilla.
As she gradually resumes her public responsibilities, the Princess accompanied her husband on a poignant visit to Southport last month.
William said he was “really pleased with the progress” the initiative has made over the last four years at the Earthshot Prize Awards, where he highlighted the amazing climate solutions from the 15 finalists and the environmental innovation occurring throughout Africa.
The Prince William said, “At some point my language is going to have to change from ‘It’s just four years to, ‘Oh my God it’s been four years,'” in response to a question about his frustrations and goals. That must change eventually. However, I believe we have created something from the ground up. It is an international environmental award. It requires a great deal of work and time. To get it perfect, a lot of balancing is required. Additionally, I was ecstatic about the award presentation last night.
He also advised companies to “hurry up and be courageous” when asked if they should do more to assist businesses in scaling up. We just do not have that much time, so invest more quickly.
When asked about his new bearded look, he laughed and responded, “Well, Charlotte didn’t like it the first time.” He also expressed his hope that his wife and kids had watched the awards from home. When I first started growing a beard, I had to cut it off because I was crying uncontrollably. I grew it back after that.
William responded, “It’s a tricky one,” when asked if he was enjoying the freedom and responsibility that come with being the Prince of Wales. Do I enjoy having greater responsibilities? No.
Yes, I do enjoy having the freedom to create something akin to Earthshot. And for me, that is the future.
